A blast from the past

I got a phone call from the past. A co-worker from the old days looked me up online, read part of Ben’s story, and tracked me down. I say the past because there are those of us who’ve not always walked the narrow path, my self included. At the time I knew my old friend, I wasn’t father material, nor was I saved.

We talked about the old times, good and bad, and caught up on what’s new. He then shared with me his testimony, and the story of his salvation. If you knew this man, you would be in awe of Gods power to save those in need, as much as I was in awe of God’s power to heal my son. My friend’s story is a testimony worth sharing, but not one I will share right now.

His call comes at time when I am not at my strongest. I’ve been lax in prayer time and reading the word. I have become complacent in my service to the Lord, even after all he has done for me. And My friend approached the call with trepidation, having a history; we all have one. His call was a wake up message. It was God’s way of saying “I’m still here and I’m still caring for those I love. Where do you think you’re going?” Sometimes we become selfish and forget where we are and why we are here. Sometimes we need a call from the past to remind of us of the present, and why we need to look with joy to the future.

I praise God for his work in my friend’s life, and for his work in my own. I recommit my self to do his work and to living a lifestyle worthy of the Gospel. May your life be touched by his hands.
